The 2024 Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 National Finals will heat up this year when it goes up north to the Sunshine Coast.

The best of the best will converge at the University of Sunshine Coast and Caloundra Indoor Stadium from August 16-18, where the National Champions will be crowned.

The champions from all five conferences, and the reigning champions from last year’s National Finals, the women’s Bendigo Braves and men’s Knox Raiders, will compete on the Sunshine Coast for the biggest prize the NBL1 has to offer.

NBL1 is Australia’s premier winter basketball league, with the five conferences covering all states and territories – South (Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia), East (New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory), North (Queensland, Northern Territory), Central (South Australia) and West (Western Australia).

“We can’t wait to take the National Finals to the wonderful Sunshine Coast, for what promises to be a weekend filled with thrilling, high stakes basketball,” NBL1 General Manager, Dean Anglin, said.

“The National Finals have been hugely successful over the past two years and are always a highlight of the NBL1 calendar. The competitiveness goes up a notch during the National Finals as the conference and defending champions battle for the ultimate national title.

“I want to thank the Sunshine Coast Council for their unwavering and sensational support of the NBL1 and we look forward to delivering an unforgettable weekend for the community.”

Sunshine Coast Council Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg said Council was proud to support the National Basketball League 1 (NBL1) Finals coming to the region, where interest in the sport was soaring.

Cr Landsberg said it would give local fans and our young players the chance to see some of their idols up close and further strengthen basketball’s profile locally.

“Basketball is booming here and this will continue with the planned indoor sports centre on the Sunshine Coast, which is proposed to host Olympic basketball games at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Brisbane 2032.

“Supporting the NBL1 Finals on the Sunshine Coast in 2024 is also the perfect way to test community and corporate support for a potential NBL franchise expansion on the Sunshine Coast.’’

The National Finals were previously held in Melbourne in 2022, and Joondalup, Western Australia, in 2023.

Further information on the National Finals, including the draw and full schedule, will be announced soon.

The 2024 NBL1 season is underway, with all games available to watch live and free on NBL1.com.au and the NBL1 App.
