Basketball Australia acknowledges Tin Lyon for their contribution to the game.

Tin Lyon
McKinnon Cougars
Moorabbin, VIC

Tin Lyon was an avid basketballer growing up with a keen interest to spread the love of basketball to others.

Tin’s journey began eight years ago by volunteering to coach his younger sibling’s teams.

He originally started by coaching his brother’s Playball team before moving on to coach his sister’s domestic teams.

His enjoyment for helping young players grow into their potential led him to volunteer for the assistant coach role of his brother’s U16 representative team. Lyon stayed in the environment to coach other U16 boys and girls representative teams with his new-found passion for representative basketball flourishing.

Lyon Tin offered some insight on his journey from coaching his younger siblings to forging his own path with the McKinnon Cougars.

On memorable moments

“A memorable achievement was in my first season as head coach for the U16.6 boys’ team, we had won sixteen games in a row to win our division grand final,” Said Lyon.

On motivation

Being part of the basketball community is incredibly rewarding. I’ve built strong relationships with players, coaches, and parents. It has been a great way to connect with others who share my passion for the sport.”

Advice for others

“Just give it a go, if you bring your passion for the game and have an understanding that learning takes time, and every player develops at their own pace.

“Seeing players improve and develop a passion for the game is a unique and rewarding experience.”
