An Albury basketball local, Brodey Fruean, KNOWS basketball.

Basketball has been a significant part of her life since her junior years and has continued all the way into motherhood.

In 2017, her eldest daughter showed an interest in following in her footsteps and Brodey volunteered to coach her under-10 team. This opportunity has propelled her into a coaching pathway in high-performance basketball.

What inspired you to become involved as a volunteer in basketball?

"My eldest daughter wanted to begin basketball so I decided to put my hand up and coach her U10G team and try to give back to the sport that had given me so much during my life. It started me on a pathway that I am extremely grateful for. "

How long have you been volunteering in basketball, and what roles have you undertaken during this time?

 Since 2017 - 8 years

Can you share a memorable experience or achievement from your time volunteering in basketball?

"My most memorable experience will always be coaching both my daughters in their first ever games of basketball. Seeing the joy on their faces starting their basketball pathway and being able to be a part of that is pretty amazing."

What motivates you to continue volunteering in the basketball community?

 "2 simple reasons:

The athletes you are lucky enough to work with along the way! Their passion and drive to better themselves. Their work ethic and love of the sport. The relationships they build with each other, teammates and staff. When they want to show up for each other each and every week, you want to show up for them."

"The relationships. Basketball has taken me so many places and I’m extremely grateful for some of the people we have met along the way. Fellow coaches, athletes and their families have become incredibly important parts of mine and my daughters lives."

What advice would you give to someone considering volunteering in basketball?

"Do it. Don’t underestimate how much joy can come from such a simple thing."
