It’s one for the girls

For the first time, the Opals game had a full female roster of referees, scorebench officials and statisticians.

On a night where the Seven Consulting Opals shone at John Cain Arena with a convincing win over China 91-63, it was an equally impressive performance from the officiating crew.

For the first time the Opals game had a full female roster of referees, scorebench officials and statisticians, a testament to the growth of women in officiating.

It is a fitting way to honour one of the most decorated female international teams as they head off to the Olympics full of confidence following two good wins in their lead-in preparation.

Head Coach of the Seven Consulting Opals Cheryl Chambers is delighted to see women taking more roles in basketball.

“There are more women involved in basketball than ever before across all areas including coaching and officiating it’s great to see and I’m very excited for the future of our sport.

"Tonight was really special for the coaches, players, officiating staff and especially the fans.”
